Dear students, dear colleagues, Welcome to the beginning of the academic year 2023/2024 at the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno. I would like to wish you a successful entry into the next study period.

Dear students, dear colleagues,

Welcome to the beginning of the academic year 2023/2024 at the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno. I would like to wish you a successful entry into the next study period.

In the new academic year, in addition to the existing study programmes of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology, Food Safety and Quality, Food Safety and Quality in Gastronomy, and Animal Protection and Welfare, other study programmes that were launched in the last academic year, namely Veterinary Assistance and Veterinary Public Health Protection, will be taught. These programmes will be joined by a new study programme Wildlife Animal Health and Environment Protection from this year. The University of Veterinary Sciences Brno has thus completed its portfolio of study programmes oriented towards veterinary issues and providing, in addition to traditional veterinary medical education, education in Bachelor´s and Master´s degree programmes.

The new academic year will also see the continuation of postgraduate doctoral education in which, in addition to the existing 6 study programmes of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and 5 study programmes of the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology, a new study programme of Veterinary Virology will be added from this year.

At the beginning of the academic year 2023/2024, international accreditation of veterinary education at both faculties—the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology lies ahead of the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno. After more than a year of preparations and drawing up the Self-Evaluation Report on Veterinary Education at both faculties, a commission of experts from the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education will visit the faculties in early October and will spend a whole week verifying the teaching conditions and the actual veterinary teaching at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology. The result will be an international assessment of the level of veterinary education at both faculties in terms of meeting/not meeting internationally set standards of veterinary education.

In the academic year 2023/2024, we will continue to support talented students by involving them in educational and research activities, as well as supporting the internationalisation of students in follow-up to their studies, especially within the University's internal agencies IVA, IGA, IMA, ITA.

The University has also improved its counselling activities for students, which should help students overcome critical life situations related to their studies, health, family or social problems.

For the academic year 2023/2024, the University has also prepared or is preparing great support for students for their student activities and the fulfilment of academic student traditions. The University, either independently or in cooperation with student organizations, has included in the activities for the new academic year the so-called Freshmen Welcome Event, Matriculation, Midterm Party, Christmas Meeting with University Wine, Veterinary Ball, May Festival, Winter and Summer Sports Camps, Last Lecture or Farewell Party for Sixth Year Students, Graduation and others.

In this academic year, we will also celebrate the 105th anniversary of our University of Veterinary Sciences Brno.

I wish you all the best throughout the academic year 2023/2024.
